Red Letters in Luke

Sent Out

Luke 9:1–6

About This Message

Jesus sends the twelve out with authority over demons and power to heal — and tells them to take nothing for the journey. No bag, no food, no money, no extra shirt. The mission requires total dependence on God. This is the move from watching to participating.

He gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God.
Luke 9:1–2

Key Points

  1. 1

The disciples had been observers. Jesus now makes them participants — giving them His own authority.

  2. 2

"Take nothing for the journey" — not carelessness, but a lesson in dependence on God.

  3. 3

They were sent to preach the kingdom and heal the sick — proclamation and demonstration always together.

  4. 4

Where they weren't welcomed, they shook the dust off and moved on.

  5. 5

The mission is the same today: go, trust God to provide, and keep moving.
